Models Own – Splash Collection

Happy Friday!

Today I have the Splash Collection by Models Own to show you:
mo splashThis collection consists of five sheer shades with flakies πŸ˜€ You all know I’m a huge fan of flakies, so I was very excited when this collection came out. Honestly, the formula of these is not a pleasure to work with. It’s kind off thick and gloopy. The flakies are stubborn and have a tendency to stick out, even with a generous coat of top coat. Also, the base colors seem so pretty, but are extremely sheer on there own.

That said, on to the swatches!

My camera couldn’t get Pink Paradise captured as how it looks in real life. Here it looks like there are small strips of glitter in the formula, but they just aren’t there. Also, it looks like I’ve done a gradient on the nails of my ring finger and pinky. Look at the difference in color! Sorry guys! Check out Eeeek!’s swatch here for a more color accurate pic.
This is one coat over Kiss Me On My Tulips by OPI.mo pink paradiseThis is one coat of Aqua Splash over Pool girl by ANNY:mo aqua splashMermaid Tears is my favorite from these five. I think that’s because of the purple/teal blue shifting flakies. Shown here is one coat over Snow revolution by ANNY:mo mermaid tearsAnd here is one coat of Golden Shore over A Roll In The Hague by OPI:mo golden shoreLast but not least Red Sea, shown here over Woman in red by ANNY:mo red seaOverall, I’m a bit disappointed by this collection. I like the color shifting flakies, don’t get me wrong. It’s just that I feel like the formulation of these is a big bummer 😦 Maybe I’m spoiled by Nfu Oh’s fantastic flakies. So, I think I’ll stick to them πŸ˜‰

How do you feel about these? Have you tried them?

You can buy them online at the Models Own website for Β£5.00 each or Β£20.00 for the entire collection. They ship internationally!

  1. They are very pretty, but I can see why you are disappointed. The glitter isn’t nearly dense enough (and who wants to layer coat after coat — then wait for them to set — to get a nicely layered look?)

  2. I really like Mermaid Tears, but alas, every time I try a flakie it turns out awful. To be honest, I just don’t even look at them anymore! But you have great swatches πŸ˜‰

    • Ohhh there are some great flakies going around for sure. You just need to find them πŸ˜‰ Nfu Oh for example has stunning flakies and they apply flawless πŸ˜€
      And thanks so much!

  3. I didn’t know flakies could be hard to apply until you and Eeeek showed us! I only have a couple flakies- but they are just fine. What gives? Oh well.
The mermaid/purple combo looks smashing though πŸ™‚

    • Yeah, didn’t knew either until I tried these 😦
Don’t know what it it, but I know for a fact that Nfu Oh and Zoya have some amazing flakies πŸ˜€
If I remember correctly you have a Zoya right? That’s so pretty!

      • Yup- I have zoya chloe (which is one of your lemmings I think:) ) and I just got an Essie one on clearance for $2.00!! I was in shock when I saw it so cheap at the pharmacy. MINE!!
        They are usually $10.00 !

  4. I’ve got Aqua Splash and Red Sea coming my way although I read everywhere that they weren’t as great as they looked – still couldn’t resist but at least I didn’t get the whole set. Apparently Red Sea isn’t quite as clear a base as the others? Well, I’ll see for myself! They do look lovely…

    • That’s right! Red Sea is, apart from the others, the only one that seem to have a more colored base πŸ˜€ I really hope you’re going to enjoy them. I think it’s just a matter of figuring out which amount of polish is right enough to get a nice finish πŸ˜‰

    • Oh thanks love! πŸ˜€ I’ve been busy indeed! I have four complete collections by Models Own. I really can’t tell how much collections there are in my complete stash… 622 polishes to date in total and counting πŸ˜€

Oh and I just saw that ANNY is coming soon with another new collection which is in one word FANTASTIC, I just know it!
